Ella Gusova runs this fabulous business from her home in Abbots Leigh. She’s very new to our market and loves the location and how well it’s organised 😇. Ella’s soaps do not contain any harmful chemicals and nothing bad goes into the water system. She uses the heat from mixing lye with water to melt the oils and butters instead of using the stove. The finished products are packaged and labelled using recycled paper, making the whole business very environmentally friendly. The beautiful handmade soaps can also be purchased from Ella’s website www.chantrycottagesoaps.com Anyone running short right now? They’re so pretty! 🧼

For several years the Avon Wildlife Trust have been attending our market and have also had a stand at the annual Dog Show.
Their headquarters are in Bristol and they can often be found at the Tobacco Factory, Bath Artisan Market and Harbourside Market offering Information, Education & Memberships. The AWT love our market for its friendly local community, which has a good demographic that is interested to find out more about the work of the Trust. Please visit their website for further information https://www.avonwildlifetrust.org.uk/ Our resident cake seller Melanie, has been attending the Village Market for five years. Her baking skills are outstanding and the cakes are simply delicious.😋
Mel loves the friendly community and people of LA and the repeat business for her cakes. She also offers bespoke orders. Cakes will always need to be packaged for people to carry them away, so Mel uses compostable packaging and suggests that customers could use their own Tupperware containers or boxes to transport them too. Mel’s cake displays tend to get the most thumbs up on our Facebook page, well done Mel! Claire Barnard from Missycards lives in Long Ashton and is one of our fabulous traders that joined us ten years ago! She loves the sense of community and friendliness of the market. Claire sells stunning hand embellished greetings cards and small gifts which she cleverly designs herself. Missycards can also be found for sell at the LA Post Office, Village Gift Shop, Clifton, Hazel Holly Florist, Downed, Eclectic on Hanham High Street or from www.missycards.etsy.com Claire is looking to start selling party invites along with notecard and thank you card packs. In helping to reduce carbon footprint, Claire uses recycled envelopes and has started to switch to biodegradable, compostable cello bags. Cards for markets need to be wrapped for protection and storage, so responsible materials are used where possible including naked cards - with no bags. Follow Missycards on www.Instagram.com/Missycards Missycards Thanks Claire! Rose is from Portishead and is a fairly new trader. She sells needle felted pictures made predominantly from wool but she also uses other fibres. Rose enjoys the lovely ambience at the market and the fact it’s indoors along with our eco friendly ethos.
Her business uses recycled bubble wrap for packaging and she uses recycled materials where practical eg for needle felting on to. She also has a selection of unframed wall hangings. We asked Rose what challenges does she face in trying to reduce carbon footprint of her products? “I obtain raw materials at a reasonable price but I would like to buy raw wool products locally if they were available. I shop on-line but try to buy in bulk to save on transportation costs. The unframed pictures are almost always 100% biodegradable as they are made from natural fibres.” You can follow rose on her Facebook page ‘Rose Felt Inspired’ and she also sells at Ebb & Flo gift shop, High Street, Portishead. The picture of the horse was sewn on to an old pair of jeans. Brilliant! Jane is a local lady that’s traded with us for ten years. She sells preserves such as jam, marmalade, chutney and pickles and is very happy for you to sample with some cheese & crackers! She’s always trying new recipes and listens to customers requests. Jane enjoys the friendly atmosphere of the market and regularly sees friends and chats to her regular customers.
The business uses recycled jars and lids and these can re returned and reused and it’s definitely plastic free! She uses local organic ingredients whenever possible, mainly vegan/vegetarian, in fact she’d like to get all ingredients from local growers. I can personally vouch for the chilli jam, it’s amazing! Thanks Jane! |
